Route
The BRT line will travel primarily along Fredericksburg Road and Medical Drive connecting
the University of Texas at San Antonio 1604 campus to the South Texas Medical Center
and downtown San Antonio. VIA is planning to build two new transit facilities; the
first of which will be the Westside Multimodal Transit Center located in the Cattleman
Square neighborhood. The second facility will be the Medical Center Transit Center
located at Babcock Rd. and Medical Dr.
On the northwest end of the line is the University of Texas at San Antonio 1604
campus. From there the route continues along 1604 to the University Park & Ride
located under the 1604 / IH-10 interchange. The route continues to the South Texas
Medical Center Transit Center via IH-10, Fredericksburg and Medical Dr. The route
continues on Medical Drive through the South Texas Medical Center District and back
to Fredericksburg Road. Once on Fredericksburg Road the route continues through
Balcones Heights and the Deco District. At Fredericksburg Road and Woodlawn Avenue,
the BRT will enter IH-10 and travel a short distance, exiting near the proposed
Westside Multimodal Transut Center (WMTC) in Cattleman Square Historical District.
From the WMTC the route continues east through downtown on Market Street to the
Robert Thompson Transit Center before making the return trip.
The BRT route is approximately 20 miles in length and will serve the two transit
centers, 8 station locations along the corridor, and local stops in the central
business district and north of Medical Dr.
